Between Communication Support and Tension Regulation: Psychosocial Determinants of Students’ Use of Generative AI in Private Messaging

Abstract
The article addresses the issue of the relationship between generation of private messages using artificial intelligence tools and the psychosocial functioning of young adults. The analysis focuses on the use of AI in interpersonal communication, understood as the process of creating, modifying, and adapting content directed to other individuals in private contexts. The study involved 575 university students and employed an original questionnaire concerning AI use, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and K. Young’s Internet Addiction Test. The results indicate significant relationships between generating private messages using AI and the participants’ age, stress level, and severity of Internet addiction. The findings suggest that the use of AI in private communication may be associated not only with practical support in composing messages, but also with broader aspects of the psychological and digital functioning of young adults.
