The article describes the beginnings and the contemporary picture of psychoanalysis and its key representatives who addressed the issues connected with education and upbringing in Poland and other countries. It presents critical views on psychoanalysis and its selected negative outcomes in educational practices on the basis of contemporary pedagogical thought and the relations of psy- choanalysis with transactional analysis, which are frequently ambiguous and controversial. Educa- tional transactional analysis, together with psychoanalysis, can become inspirational and useful ar- eas offering effective solutions in pedagogical theory and practice.
