Abstract
The paper presents women’s sport in Poland based on the “Przegląd Sportowy” [“Sports Review”] magazine of 1939. “Sports Review” popularized women’s sport in Poland through reports, materials and articles concerning conditions for women’s sport, women’s sports competition and achievements. The most popular sports disciplines practised by women in Poland in the period discussed were sports games, athletics and archery. Women also practised other sports disciplines, among others, gymnastics, canoeing, skating, skiing, swimming, fencing, rowing, tennis, table tennis and automobile sport. At that time Polish women were most successful in the international arena in archery and tennis. The best women in Polish sport included: Janina Kurkowska-Spychajowa and Jadwiga Jędrzejowska.Similar Articles
