Leszek Wojtal’s Litania (2023) for solo guitar: between the composer’s and piece’s intention

Abstract

Leszek Wojtal’s Litania for solo guitar (2023) constitutes a starting point for the author’s reflection regarding the relationship between the composer’s intention and the autonomy of the musical piece. The paper discusses the origins of the composition, its formal structure, its sound and some performance-related issues, paying particular attention to the need for the introduction of interpretation techniques informed by the characteristics of classical guitar and this piece in particular. This study contributes to the broader discussion on the performer’s role in shaping a piece of music.
