The An Outline of the Repertoire of Songs Created From Avant-Garde to the Present Day by Slovak Composers Based on Foreign Language Poetry

Abstract

This article is a follow-up to the previous paper (see, M. Žiarna, An Outline of the Repertoire of Songs Created From Romanticism to Modernism by Slovak Composers Based on Foreign Language Poetry, “Edukacja Muzyczna” 2023, vol. 18, pp. 173–190, http://dx.doi.org/10.16926/em.2023.18.01). It continues through the Slovak musical avant-garde from its inception to the present day offering an overview of Slovak composers and their oeuvre. It places particular emphasis on secular songs with piano accompaniment based on foreign-language texts, written by poets from Germany, Austria, France, England, America, Israel, China, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Armenia, and the Czech Republic. The objective is to provide an overview of the aforementioned song repertoire and, consequently, to present a perspective on the evolution of vocal foreign-text literature within the context of Slovak music history, including an analysis of the potential for these works to be incorporated into the concert repertoires of singers across all vocal categories.
