Abstract

This article outlines several fundamental elements which contribute to the emergence of the political phenomenon known as “populism”. In contemporary, democratic, political system conditions, factors conducive to the development of this phenomenon include those resulting from the progress of civilizational and the growing social issues that accompany it. In a very synthetic way, populism can be seen as the articulation, within a specific society of problems, that arise based on group and individual goals. The question remains open as to whether populism, as a new political phenomenon, is becoming a precursor to the next stage in the process of global social development.
