Threats arising from sharing information on social media

Abstract

This article addresses the issue of threats arising from sharing content on social media. The
role of information in the contemporary world, the dynamic history of social media development,
and the problems of disinformation and fake news are the key topics that allow for an in-depth
exploration of the subject. The legal and ethical context of data acquisition from social media also
affects the user’s sense of security. The content of the article is based on materials from scientific
literature, journals, online sources, and the author’s reflections. To understand the user’s per-
spective, the article refers to the results of surveys conducted among social media users, which,
among other things, allowed for verification of what information respondents post and find, as
well as answering the question of whether they believe that sharing information on social media
can have negative consequences.
