“Kurier Wileński” (“Vilnius Courier”) on Central and Eastern Europe’s path to security 1989–1999

Abstract

The article analyzes how “Kurier Wileński,” the largest Polish-language periodical in the former USSR, presented issues related to international politics of the 1990s. The manner in which the content was presented is presented and the main areas of interest to the editors are identified. The basis for consideration was an analysis of the thematic content of the journal. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the newspaper carried out activities oriented towards the realization of the Lithuanian state’s prospective goals – the construction of an inde-pendent, democratic and secure homeland, which would also provide development opportunities for Poles residing in its territory. It was also found that, in accordance with the specific nature of the title, the majority of the texts published in its pages were of an informative nature, and there were few analytical or commentary studies, and they were often reprints or had the form of in-terviews.
