Sergei Rachmaninoff’s performances of in Poland

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present information on several concerts which were played in Po-

land (Warsaw and provincial cities – Lodz, Vilnius) by Sergei Rachmaninov before the First

World War and in the twentieth century interwar period. The authors reconstruct the pianist’s

repertoire presented in Poland and quote critical voices, considering as especially important those

that illustrate the socio-political background of the reception of the great Russian’s art.
