Abstract

The author of the article examines the phenomenon of personal learning environments from
various perspectives in the context of contemporary educational challenges, educational policy,
and educational changes. The organisation of personal learning environments is considered from
the perspective of various ideas, concepts, and philosophical trends. The author pays particular
attention to the analysis of the philosophical trends of constructivism and connectivism, as well
as to the basic provisions (principles of formation) of a personal learning environment, in particular,
the effect of personalisation, adaptability and spontaneity of learning, algorithmisation, continuous
collection of information, etc.
The article points out that one of the most important elements in creating a personal learning
environment is the development of an electronic or digital portfolio. This stimulates the personal
growth of students in the process of completing various educational tasks and analysing situations.
In conclusion, the author analyses various dimensions of knowledge that help to understand
the real role of a personal learning environment in a global world with a global economy.
