Track and field athletics of fifth grade students of Primary School No. 2 in Olsztyn as an indicator of their motor skills

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to determine the level of motor skills of the fifth grade students of Primary School No. 2 in Olsztyn based on the results obtained in track and field athletics. The track and field athletics were conducted in May in the school years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/2016 at the Olsztyńska Szkoła Wyższa stadium. The results were used in the methodology of variables measurement of the 60m run, ball throw, the jump, 600m females run and 1000m males run were converted into points according to the PZLA charts. The sum of points was an indicator of respondents physical fitness. In general, the highest scores were achieved by students in the school year 2015/2016, while the lowest scores were in the school year 2013/2014 achieved by female students and in 2014/2015 achieved by male students. The best results achieved among all students were at 60m run regardless to the school year, where the highest percentage of high scores were recorded. The lowest result was obtained in the endurance competition more than 70% of the respondents (600 m and 1000 m) and ball throw, where more than 90% of the respondents were in the group with the lowest results. Research shows that the overall level of motor skills of girls and boys is low. This is evidenced by over 70% of the results placed at the bottom of the scores charts.
