Abstract

The article presents various perspectives of the institutional care of persons in their late adulthood. The introduction defines the aging process and factors that impact the changes taking place within the course of time. An attempt was made to answer the following question: How does the state, social environment, manages the spare time of seniors? Time management was defined in relation to persons remaining in their third age. Attention was paid to the life activity and involvement in organizations, and its impact on the life quality. This was a background for models (both governmental and non-governmental) of supporting seniors and various approaches to spare time management.

It was stated in the conclusion that institutional and non-institutional actions should not be stopped as they may influence the change of behaviors among seniors, encouraging them to take up an active lifestyle, without any disabilities of functional dependency.
