Abstract

After the Yom Kippur War, pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution No. 340 of October 25, 1973, the UN Emergency Force in the Middle East was established. In the years 1973-1979, the Polish Military Special Unit performed peacekeeping service, carrying out three basic mandate tasks: transport in the so-called second line, engineering protection of the buffer zone and medical security of the entire UN Defense Force. The PWJS mission is also the beginning of several decades of Poland’s involvement in peacekeeping activities under the UN blue flag.
