Political effects of military involvement of Poland in Iraq in years 2003–2008

Abstract

The article discusses a number of political effects that Poland has suffered as a result of military
involvement in Iraq in years 2003–2008 and several issues crucial to the presented topic. The
theory of bandwagoning from the point of view of Poland’s interests, the political background of
the conflict and the controversies involved with it have been presented. The article showed situation
on the international arena of the time – a change in the attitude of individual states toward Poland,
in particular relations with USA, as well as an overall increase in the prestige. The topic of
the impact of operations in Iraq on the status of the UN as a global security institution was also
discussed.
