Poland in the transatlantic relations

Abstract

The article focuses on the evolution of the Polish approach towards the development of European strategic autonomy in European military integration. In the National Security Strategy of the Republic of Poland adopted by President Lech Kaczyński we read that: “Poland is in favour of the development of the European Security and Defence Policy. Under the influence of external threats and international relations The European Union, the measures have been taken to strengthen a cooperation of the Member States in the area of security since 2016. The decisions of permanent structured cooperation in the field of the Common Security and Defense Policy (PESCO) were taken on June 22, 2017. 25 EU members develop of 34 projects to improve the quality of the European security system. For The Central Europe canters and Poland the most important is Military Mobility. They will be led by the Netherlands, which already has significant experience in the coordination of European strategic transport. One year after the activation of PESCO, Warsaw officially supports defence cooperation within the EU, but with full sovereignty, both in terms of the building of structures and the use of troops, as well as defence purchases. This is not surprising, as at various stages of Poland's involvement in the Euro-Atlantic system, the Polish political classes were not enthusiastic about the concept of so-called “strategic autonomy”.
