Abstract

The article discusses the role of special forces in the Polish security policy. It shows the place of those troops in the state security system and their evolving functions after the end of the Cold War, especially after the start of the war on global terrorism. The paper presents a brief history of the development of Polish Special Forces starting from the early formations created during World War II by transforming these forces into an independent kind of armed forces in 2007 and concluding on their current state. Reference is made to the role of Special Forces in achieving the objectives set out in the assumptions of the Polish security policy on the national and international
level, and their use in selected military operations during the period after World War II is presented.
