Abstract

In the article attempts to describe and characteristics of selected contemporary Polish security risks of non-military. For this purpose, the article presents mutual relationships and dependencies between conceptual categories: security – national security – social security. The author has also made a review of selected social problems which included:
— progressive aging of the population,
— emigrating Poles
— low level of social activity,
— the phenomenon of social pathology, and in particular the scope and structure of unemploy-
ment, homelessness, poverty, crime, prostitution, drug addiction and alcoholism.
In the face of the political, social or technological changes, which intensified at the end of the twentieth century, today assumed – that the phenomenon of non-military and their consequences have become more of a threat to the security of humanity than the threat of open conflict. These social issues were treated as potential threats.
