Abstrakt

The analysis of the fourteenth-century "Life of Dorothea of Montau" led to some conclusions about the relation in the wealthy Medieval family. The author, Jan of Kwidzyn, convinces of the feeling of the specifity of childhood at that time. He points at emotionality between parents and a child, but he focuses of the relationship between mother and daughter more than between father and daughter. It is not meaningless, because during that period women were responsible for raising girls. The author mentions the authority of parents in the family expressed by the children's obedience to their orders. Jan of Kwidzyn writes also about the adults care for children, nursing in the time of illness and mindfulness about children's proper sleep time. Among the parents' task there are also providing food and raising in discipline. The author presents the breakthroughs of children's growth: age of six months and ten years. Many didactic aspects in the work result from the sociocultural circumstances of that time. Many of them were determined by the Christian culture of both, the author and the man character of his work.
