The effect of mobility processes on the local environment and personal situation of economic migrants

Abstract

Poland is a country with a long tradition of migration. In the wake of the events related to the access to the EU structures, the first decade of this century witnessed another wave of emigration from our country - determined with a series of economic factors. The article presents the balance of benefits and losses following from mass migrations of the populations of peripheral areas after the EU access. For each of the following categories, the author focuses on the one hand on the consequences of the mobility processes affecting the transformations of the migrants’ local environment, while the other aspect is related to the changes in the families (households) of the people who were staying abroad for economic purposes.
