Role of employee appraisal systems in improving bank function
Abstract
This article presents human resources evaluation and feedback system, as a part of human resurces system, in a modem commercial bank. Most domestic, Polish banks, which created successful system, built it basing on European banking experience (in most cases, benefi ting from having foreign strategie investor). Evaluation procedures in such banks support both motivation and management development processes. For the reason of this article we will define evaluation system as a planned, formal and periodical process in which manager measures, evaluates and comments subordinate's performance. Most often the process is organized as a set of performance review interviews and meetings, as well surveys and feedback forms. These might be combined with salaries and benefits systems. Handling such and organized and planned review process is a new approach, benchmarked by Polish banks from European ones. Analysis, conclusions and data presented in the article is based on author's own experience gained in biggest domestic commercial banks.
